Frank Ocean is finally speaking up regarding a legal battle brought forth against him by his father Calvin Cooksey.

Back in February, the singer’s father filed a defamation lawsuit against him, over Ocean’s claims he once called a transgender waitress a “f*ggot” in front of him.

Ocean revealed this during a blog post on his Tumblr account in 2016.

The singer responded to the lawsuit, arguing that his Tumblr post — written in the wake of the tragic Orlando shooting — reflects actual events. Because of this, he’s asking the court to dismiss the case and order his father to cover legal fees, according to TMZ.

“I was six years old when I heard my dad call our transgender waitress a f*ggot as he dragged me out a neighborhood diner saying we wouldn’t be served because she was dirty,” Ocean wrote in the Tumblr post. “That was the last afternoon I saw my father and the first time I heard that word, I think, although it wouldn’t shock me if it wasn’t.”

In Cooksey’s lawsuit, he claimed the Tumblr post damaged his reputation and ruined opportunities he had in film and music. He is seeking $14.5 million in damages.
