Kodak Black could’ve faced several years, but was given a one-year sentence this week, after being found guilty of a probation violation last month.
According to the Sun Sentinel, the 19-year-old rapper (born Dieuson Octave) appeared in a Florida courtroom on Thursday afternoon (May 4) for sentencing and received 364 days in jail for violating terms of his house arrest. However, the report added that Kodak could be released in a month…. if he completes a life skills course and gets credit for time served.
The Broward state attorney was pushing for eight years in prison, saying he’s had numerous chances to abide by the law, but refused to.
In court, Kodak Black apologized to his mother, saying that when he heard that she broke down in tears outside the courtroom last week, it “pierced my heart”.
Last month, he was found guilty of violating the terms of his house arrest for leaving his home — without permission — to visit a Miami strip club and an Ohio boxing match.
Despite his legal troubles, Kodak’s debut album Painting Pictures remains on the Billboard 200, currently No. 16 after debuting at No. 3 last month.
