Wow! This is tasteless, but not unexpected. Apparently, the SUV used in former NFL star Aaron Hernandez’s 2012 double-murder went up for auction on eBay this week.
As of press time, the listing was removed, but had reached over $100,000 before it was pulled on Tuesday (May 2).
The owner of the 2006 Toyota 4Runner is a Rhode Island car dealer, who leased it to Hernandez as part of a promotional agreement, according to ESPN.
The vehicle was referred to as the “murder car” during Hernandez’s trial.
The now-dead NFL star was accused of shooting deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, via a drive-by shooting from the SUV’s passenger seat after an altercation at a Boston nightclub hours earlier.
Hernandez was ultimately acquitted of the crime in April 14. However, he was already serving a life sentence for killing a man who was dating his fiancee’s sister in 2013.
He killed himself in his cell days after the acquittal.
