Days after Joe Budden and DJ Akademiks discussed whether or not Lil Yachty was “bad for hip-hop culture”, the rapper appears on the pair’s Complex show, “Everyday Struggle”.
In the previous show, Budden essentially concluded that Yachty shouldn’t be considered “hip-hop”, prompting a response on Twitter.
This week, Yachty participated in a conversation with the two, explaining his view on the genre and his success, as well as the controversial cover for his debut album, Teenage Emotions.
While the debate got extremely intense (mostly due to Budden), Yachty held his own and was able to articulate his point surprisingly clear.
Watch the episode above to see how it went down.
Teenage Emotions drops May 26.
