Forbes has delivered its 2017 list of most valuable MLB franchises… and it’s the New York Yankees reigning supreme.

Since first publishing the list 20 years ago, the New York franchise has topped the list each year. This year, he Yanks sit atop once again with a current value of $3.7 billion.

The Steinbrenner family has owned the Yankees since 1973, longer than any other current baseball ownership group. The group, organized by George Steinbrenner, paid $10 million to CBS for the team. Since then, the teamm’s value has increased 6,627 percent!!!

The next most valuable team is the Los Angeles Dodgers, worth $2.75 billion. Rounding out the top five most valuable are the Boston Red Sox ($2.7 billion), the Chicago Cubs ($2.675 billion) and the San Francisco Giants ($2.65 billion).

According to Forbes, the average MLB team is now worth $1.54 billion, 19 percent higher than just a year ago. The league’s digital arm, MLB Advanced Media, has contributed largely to huge growth in recent years and is equally owned by the league’s teams.

Success has also contributed to value, given that the five most valuable teams have won six of the last eight World Series. The defending champion Cubs saw their value skyrocket in recent years, growing more than 180 percent since 2009.
