During the post-fight press conference for UFC 210 over the weekend, reporters asked Dana White about the hyped superfight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor.
Though he previously said it wasn’t happening, Dana now says he does see the fight happening, but admits neither side is close to signing the contract.
“Conor is having a baby… any day now. After Conor has his baby, we’re meeting in New York. We’re not close,” he said.
“I see this fight happening. Conor wants it and Floyd wants it,” White added. “I can’t deny [Conor McGregor] this fight.”
The UFC president went on to blast Mayweather’s uncle Jeff and promoter Bob Arum over split rumors for the fight.
“What I do want to clarify is all the bullsh*t about the 80/20 split in this fight,” White said. “Jeff Mayweather? Come on Jeff. Me and Jeff go way back. Jeff, are you the spokesperson now for Team Mayweather? And Bob Arum? You piece of sh*t. F*ck you too. What do they know about this fight? What do they know about this fight… nothing!!”
Finally, before concluding, White goes on to say he’s unsure when the fight may happen, but made it clear, Conor is just as big a star as Mayweather… referencing Floyd’s “A side/B side” argument.
“Listen… you guys judge. Is Conor McGregor not a massive star? This fight there… Floyd doesn’t make this kind of money either… without Conor. Conor’s just as important as Floyd when it comes to this fight,” he said.
