It looks like a redhead emoji may be coming soon, after gingers kept asking for their emoji equivalent on social media.
According to The Telegraph, Apple is hosting a Unicode Technical Committee meeting in San Francisco next week to discuss the addition of redhead emojis.
“The lack of a redhead emoji has been the most frequent complaint from users in the past three months,” Jeremy Burge, founder of Emojipedia, told the paper. “This document aims to move the discussion forward on how this can be addressed.”
Burge said their could be a single “redhead person” or they could also allow any emoji to have red hair.
In recent years, emojis have become quite diverse. Following the initial basic yellow versions, today, users can choose from a variety of skin tones and hair colors, as well as genders. However, there’s been no redhead option yet.
Apparently, an online petition that was started in Scotland demanded the addition of a redhead emoji, and has racked up more than 20,000 signatures.
