Actor Patrick Stewart revealed this week that he uses medical marijuana daily.
Best known for roles like Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie franchise, the 76-year-old suffers from arthritis and to ease his pain, uses marijuana spray, ointment and edible cannabis products.
In a statement (via The Daily Telegram) supporting Oxford University’s Cannabis Research Plan, Stewart said he was given a medical marijuana prescription two years ago to help with the ortho-arthritis in his hands… and hasn’t looked back.
He uses a marijuana-derived spray that brought back mobility to his hands and allowed him to make fists again. Additionally, he regularly used a marijuana-derived ointment and an edible bar to help him sleep.
“As a result of this experience, I enthusiastically support the Oxford University Cannabis Research Plan,” Stewart said in the statement. “This is an important step forward for Britain in a field of research that has, for too long, been held back by prejudice, fear and ignorance.”
Stewart stars opposite Hugh Jackman as Charles Xavier, in Jackman’s final Wolverine movie, Logan, which is in theaters now.
