Fat Joe is documented as one of the first rappers heavy in the sneaker game, especially with Jordans. Apparently, a Jordan collaboration was in the works at one time… but it never came to fruition.
During a recent interview on The Lord Sear Special on Shade 45, the rap veteran revealed that he and Jordan had designed a sneaker together for a planned release, but his beef with 50 Cent derailed the deal.
“I was supposed to be the first artist to collaborate with Jordan Brand. Like… I met with [MJ] six times and we were coming up with the design and everything,” Joe explained. “But, that’s when the me and 50 Cent beef was really, really on. We had went at it in the awards show, and from Michael Jordan’s mouth, from himself, he was like, ‘Yo I wanted to do it, but you know, I’m not into all that rap beef and these problems’. That was it, that was he backed out of it.”
If Joe were to get another shot with Jordan, he says he would love it to be an Air Jordan 3 or 9.
Joe’s joint album with Remy Ma, Plata o Plomo, drops Feb. 17.
