The teams for Super Bowl LI were determined over the weekend: the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.
Tom Brady’s Patriots reached the Super Bowl for the ninth time in franchise history, after earning a 36-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday (Jan. 22) in the AFC Championship Game; while the Falcons earned their spot for just the second time in franchise history, with an impressive 44-21 win over the Green Bay Packers, also on Sunday (Jan. 22), in the NFC Championship Game.
Atlanta began the season as 100-1 long shots to win the Super Bowl and could be found at 150-1 in mid-September after opening with a home loss to Tampa Bay, reports ESPN. William Hill’s Nevada sportsbook took 184 bets on Atlanta to win the Super Bowl at odds of 100-1 or greater, according to vice president of marketing Michael Grodsky.
With the odds against the Falcons, the New England Patriots are 3-point favorites to win Super Bowl LI, according to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook… And, the favorite has won 32 of 50 Super Bowls. Furthermore, the total was set at 58, making it the highest over/under in Super Bowl history.
While the Falcons were longshots to make and win the Super Bowl, the Patriots began the season at around 5-1 and remained the consensus Super Bowl favorites throughout the season.
