Hip-hop personality Taxstone, best known for his “Tax Season” podcast, was arrested on Monday (Jan. 16) in connection with the Troy Ave-related shooting at T.I.’s Irving Plaza concert last year.
According to the New York Daily News, police arrested Tax (born Daryl Campbell) at his aunt’s house in East New York sometime Monday morning. He was reportedly hit with a weapons possession charge, and slated to appear in federal court on Tuesday (Jan. 17).
Tax’s involvement in the shooting is currently unknown.
Rapper Troy Ave was shot in the leg last May, in the green room at Irving Plaza. He claims he wrestled the gun away from the man who shot and killed his friend/bodyguard Ronald McPhatter… and fired back in self-defense.
The rapper was arrested in connection with the shooting and has since been freed on $500,000 bail.
Troy’s lawyer Scott Leemon issued a statement on the matter, though he would not identify anyone as the shooter at this time. “As I told you day one, Troy was a victim,” Leemon explained. “[Troy] was shot by someone else and his friend and bodyguard died a hero.”
