Although Ronda Rousey’s return didn’t go as planned, when she was knocked out for the second straight fight, don’t feel too bad. She got a big payday.
Rousey (12-2) walked away with a guaranteed $3 million purse from her fight against Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on Friday night (Dec. 30), tying the record for the richest disclosed fight purse in MMA history. Conor McGregor took the same amount for his bout against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in August.
UFC women’s bantamweight champ, Amanda Nunes (14-4), made a guaranteed purse of $100,000, plus an additional potential $100,000 win bonus. UFC president Dana White also stated that Nunes will receive a pay-per-view bonus, and Rousey is expected to profit on PPV sales as well.
Despite the money, the fight lasted just 48 seconds, with Nunes destroying Rousey with a TKO victory to retain her belt at T-Mobile Arena.
It was Rousey’s first fight since suffering a shocking loss to Holly Holm in November 2015.
