Robert Leo Hulseman, the man behind the iconic red Solo cup, has passed away at the age of 84.
Details are unclear, but it’s assumed he passed of nature causes.
The Solo Cup Company started back in 1936 by Hulseman’s dad, and remained a family business. He started working in the company factory at the age of 18… and worked his way up to CEO, succeeding his father in 1980. After taking the reins, he would lead the company’s growth into one of the largest food service packaging companies in the world.
The company made the first cone-shaped paper cups you find next to the office water cooler, before creating the iconic red cup seen at parties today sometime during the 1970s.
RIP Robert Leo Hulseman.
