Pop singer George Michael died on Christmas Day from heart failure. He was just 53 years old.
According to his publicist, Michael died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Goring, England. Furthermore, she said he had not been ill.
In a statement, Thames Valley Police called his death “unexplained but not suspicious.”
Michael shot to stardom in the 1980s as half of the duo Wham!, releasing the platinum-selling single “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go”, which topped the Billboard Hot 100 back in 1984. The duo split in 1986, because Michael felt restricted and wanted to do other things.
He went on to become one of the era’s biggest solo pop artists, releasing hit singles like “Faith” and “I Want Your Sex”. His solo debut, Faith, won the Grammy for Album of the Year and spawned multiple hit singles.
According to TMZ, Michael struggled with his weight in the months before his death.
