Youtuber Adam Saleh was booted from a recent Delta Airlines flight, which he documented on social media and blamed on racism.
Saleh says he and his friend Slim Albaher were kicked off the flight for speaking Arabic… and despite his history as a prankster, says it was no joke.
In the clip, which went viral on Wednesday (Dec. 21), Saleh and Albaher are seen being escorted off a flight, while telling nearby passengers that it is because other passengers heard them speaking Arabic and complained.
Saleh tweeted out the video with the hashtag #BoycottDelta.
Delta denies Saleh’s claims, instead saying he was causing a disturbance while boarding. “This type of conduct is not welcome on any Delta flight,” the company said in a statement. “While one, according to media reports, is a known prankster who was video recorded and encouraged by his traveling companion, what is paramount to Delta is the safety and comfort of our passengers and employees. It is clear these individuals sought to violate that priority.”
The viral video has stirred up controversy online. Rapper French Montana, who’s mother was an non-English speaking immigrant when she arrived in America, spoke up about the clip, saying it made him “really sad”, while vowing to also boycott Delta Airlines.
“I don’t like speaking on things like this but this struck a nerve,” he wrote on Instagram. “I have a mother that doesn’t speak English and discrimination like this makes me really sad. The fact that this can happen to her makes me sick. I’m NOT using delta anymore smh #equality”
