The NBA announced this week that The Roots have been tapped to kick off the 2017 NBA All-Star Game in February at New Orleans’ Smoothie King Center.
The veteran hip-hop group currently serves as the official house band of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The Roots won four Grammys including “Best R&B Album” for Wake Up!, “Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance” for “Hang in There” (with John Legend) and “Best Group or Duo R&B Vocal Performance” for “Shine”. Additionally, their annual festival, The Roots Picnic, has become a celebrated event.
