Nearly two months after getting back the starting quarterback job, Colin Kaepernick was benched during the San Francisco 49ers’ game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday (Dec. 4).
Kaepernick finished the game with just four passing yards, after being pulled in the 4th quarter, as the 49ers lost their 11th straight game. It was the first time in NFL history that a quarterback threw for less than five yards and was sacked five times in a game.
Despite the dismal performance, Kaepernick said he did not expect to be benched in favor of Blaine Gabbert. “I am surprised,” he told reporters. “It wasn’t something that was expected. I’m always prepared and ready to do anything I can to help this team win.”
Coach Chip Kelly hasn’t announced who will be quarterback next week. Stay tuned…
