Adidas Originals teams up with Japanese streetwear brand Mastermind Japan for the release of a pair of footwear collaborations.
Here in time for the Fall/Winter 2016 season, the drop consists of new versions of Adidas’ NMD_XR1 and the Tubuar Instinct — each incorporating Mastermind’s distinctive monotone color palette and skull & crossbones motif.
The first silhouette, the MMJ_NMD_XR1, sees the NMD reimagined in Mastermind’s design language. A pitch black color palette is applied to the knitted upper, structural overlays and EVA midsole plugs, countered by branding details on the insole, tongue and TPU cage, all sitting atop classic BOOST tooling. It also comes with three sets of custom laces.
The second is the MMJ_Tubular_Instinct. It boasts the same monochromatic look, featuring a blacked-out upper construction with Skull & Crossbone branding on the lateral heel. Contrasting white is added to the heel, while a full zip closure down the heel transforms the progressive high-top model into a clean, high fashion context. Joint branding on the insole and tongue completes the look.
The Adidas Originals by Mastermind collection drops this month online and at select retailers, each shoe priced at $220.
