After dropping his ninth studio set, Major Key, DJ Khaled has reached a first in his career — his first-ever No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200.
The new album, which was released exclusively on Apple Muisc, debuts atop the albums chart, selling over 59,000 copies in its first week.
“I am extremely proud to be able to share this much-deserved, career-defining #1 album with my longtime friend, DJ Khaled,” said Epic Records CEO, L.A. Reid. “Khaled’s pure musical talent, hit-making ears, and social media savvy, combined with the fiercely loyal bond with his devoted fan base, is clearly reflected in his first week debut. No one works harder nor deserves it more. I am blessed to be associated with Khaled and look forward to many more years of hits together.”
“This album would not have been possible without the love and support of the Queen Ms. Lauryn Hill, and I would like to share the letter she wrote in support of ‘Nas Album Done’ feat. Nas : ‘DJ Khaled, thank you for that acknowledgement, and thank you and Nas for blessing up the chune lol. Fugee-La was a special song for us. I have fond memories of us and Salaam recording that song. My son, Zion, ironically laid his own thoughts down in verse on this same song recently. There must be something in the air. May God bless your family and the arrival of your new child. I also remember that Humble Lion show! Grace and peace to both of you.’ xo, MLH,” added Khaled.
Major Key boasts two bonafide smash hits — the gold-selling “For Free” (featuring Drake), and “I Got the Keys” (featuring Future and JAY Z), which just cracked the Top 10. It also boasts a number of big name appearances, including Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Big Sean, Meghan Trainor, Nas, Rick Ross, J.Cole, Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Jeezy, YG ,Nicki Minaj, and the list goes on.
Congrats to DJ Khaled.
