Andre Ward remained undefeated on Saturday night (Aug. 6), when he easily cruised to a unanimous decision over Alexander Brand at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA.
Ward toyed with his opponent from the beginning, en route to a shutout decision, where he was 120-108 on all three judges’ scorecards.
The champ had his way with Brand throughout, poking him with hard jabs and hurting him with right hands to the body, while Brand did virtually nothing, aside from backing up, grabbing and holding to survive for 12 rounds.
Ward retained his WBO light heavyweight belt, and sets up a long-awaited showdown with unified titleholder Sergey Kovalev, whom he will meet Nov. 19 on HBO PPV. Before, however, both had successfully navigate interim bouts to seal the deal.
