Ok, it looks like Manny Pacquiao’s return from brief retirement is set… and he will face Jessie Vargas in his next fight.
According to the LA Times’ Lance Pugmire, Pac-Man will face the 27-year-old, current WBO welterweight champion.
While the decision has been made, both camps will reportedly meet next week to discuss a fight location, with Las Vegas and Dubai both in consideration. It is also expected to take place in the fall, in either October or November.
Other opponents in the running, included Adrien Broner and Bud Crawford. However, Arum said Broner was asking for too much money, while Pacquiao’s trainer said Crawford was too dangerous to fight now.
Pacquiao (58-6-2, 38 KOs) is coming off a convincing victory over Timothy Bradley in April, their third meeting.
Vargas has 27-1 record, with his lone defeat coming from Bradley in 2015.
