Following its unveiling earlier this year, we recently had the chance to get behind the wheel of the luxurious, performance-ready 2016 Lexus GS F.
It arrived in the Lexus’ eye-catching Ultrasonic Blue Mica paint job and 467 hp under the hood, thanks to its naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8. Not only does the new GS F offer the same luxury feel of any Lexus sedan, but also the performance upgrades the brand’s F division has been perfecting since 2006, when it introduced the IS F.
Based on Lexus’ mid-size GS sedan, the new GS F should not be confused with the GS 350 F SPORT. The GS F builds upon the GS 350 F SPORT trim, via a comprehensive set of upgrades, from its powertain to its suspension and overall tuning.
The 5.0-liter V8 is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters for manual-shifting capabilities, while offering Lexus’ familiar drive mode select, which allows the driver to choose between Normal, Eco, Sport and Sport S+ on the fly. Also, there’s the obviously addition of Lexus’ trademark “spindle” grille — reserved for F models only — giving the sedan and sporty and aggressive front end fascia.
We haven’t taken this bad boy on the track, but we hear it’s got some power, though it is pretty heavy, weighing in at around two tons. But, Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, mounted to 19-inch forged BBS wheels, alongside fixed-caliper Brembo brakes, offer ample grip and braking while maneuvering.
While the Lexus GSF isn’t the fastest sports sedan on the market, it has notable power and a lower price tag to comparable performance models in the segment, with a base price of $85,380 USD. However, our model ran at $86,760 total, after the addition of the Mark Levinson Audio system and delivery fees.
Overall, the 2016 Lexus GS F offers speed and luxury, without paying over a $100,000 USD pricetag, making it one to check for in our book. For more info, make sure to visit Lexus.com.
