Famed artist Mister Cartoon recently teamed up with Los Angeles-based Hall of Fame for a capsule of New Era snapbacks.
The collection consists of seven different New Era 9FIFTY snapback hats, each representing a different city in Cartoon’s signature Old English-style lettering — including Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, Baltimore and Toronto.
It pays homage to the early 1980s, late 70’s when mini trucking, 5.0 Mustangs were the move, and Cartoon would iron on old English letters to represent his crews and neighborhoods. Every city would have their own style of old English iron on felt letters.
“My creative process is to put on music that inspires me, i.e. classic soul or classic Hip-Hop,” Toons says. “I get a vision in my head and start sketching out different ideas relating to that. I pin them on the wall and live with them for a while and see which grows on me. I will run the work by my homies whose opinion I respect [on style and design] and I narrow it down to the ones I love and move forward from there.”
It also includes a pair of T-shirts in black, one featuring the the cities of the collection written in Toons’ custom lettering, and another featuring a photograph taken by his longtime partner, Estevan Oriol.
The Mister Cartoon x Hall of Fame x New Era capsule is available now at Hall Of Fame’s online store.
