After Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez’s camps announced that they will postpone talks of a superfight until Fall 2017, GGG has to move on… for now.
The unified middleweight titleholder is set defend his belts against welterweight world titlist Kell Brook on Sept. 10 at the O2 Arena in London.
According to ESPN, promoter Eddie Hearn was close to finalizing a deal for Golovkin to fight middleweight contender Chris Eubank Jr. However Eubank got cold feet… so the undefeated boxing star needed an opponent, and Brook stepped up, after his fight with Jessie Vargas fell through.
Golovkin-Brook will air on HBO and on Sky Box Office PPV in the UK.
Golovkin is coming off an easy second round knockout of mandatory challenger Dominic Wade in April.
