Rapper Freddie Gibbs was arrested in France last week on alleged rap charges.
According to Pitchfork, the rapper was taken into custody last Thursday (June 2), minutes before a scheduled performance at the Rex in Toulouse, France. Apparently, he is a suspect in a rape that took place in Austria in 2015, reports La Depeche.
Gibbs is currently in the process of being extradited to Austria to await trial.
In a statement, Gibbs’ attorneys said: “Freddie Gibbs adamantly denies the allegations that have been levied against by Austrian authorities. It makes you wonder why it took almost a year for Austrian officials to bring these charges. Freddie will be fighting the extradition request as these are nothing more than trumped up charges.”
Gibbs was forced cancel a performance in Barcelona due to the arrest, and in late May, he cancelled a show in Vienna, Austria, citing transportation issues.
