Last fall, Los Angeles-based director launched a crowdfunding campaign for a documentary exploring the origins of “twerking”.
The film, titled Twerkumentary, finds her traveling the work to discover the origins of twerk and the evolution of its cultural anomaly.
“Entertaining and sometimes humorous — what may just seem like cultural fluff — results in an unexpected, deeper conversation about empowerment, freedom of expression and the influence that music and the Internet have on cultures around the world,” reads a press release.
It also features commentary from the likes of Diplo, E-40, George Clinton, Khia, Kreayshawn, Mike G (Odd Future), Too Short and DJ Jubilee, among others.
Twerkumentary is finally set to premiere on June 10th at The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Tickets are currnetly on sale at the venue’s website.
