Days after firing Byron Scott, the Los Angeles Lakers have hired a new head coach — Luke Walton.
Terms of his contract were not immediately known, but the team says it’s a multiyear deal, reports the L.A. Times.
The 36-year-old played in the NBA until 2013. During his playing career, he was a role player for the Lakers, and was on the roster for two championships in 2009 and 2010. After retiring, Walton began a coaching career, first in the D-League, before joining the Golden State Warriors as an assistant coach.
When Steve Kerr sat out the beginning of the regular season, he became the interim coach in his absence. Now, gets his first shot as a head coach.
Walton will remain with the the Warriors through the playoffs before joining the Lakers.
