Johnny Manziel is set to be indicted on assault charges this week, stemming from a domestic spat with his ex-girlfriend earlier this year.
According to ESPN, prosecutors have notified the former NFL quarterback that a grand jury is expected to sign off on a misdemeanor assault charge for family violence. He could face up to one year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
Attorney Robert Hinton said he expects to see Manziel released on bond after the charges are delivered, but says there’s been no discussions about reaching a deal before trial… yet.
The indictment stems from allegations by his ex-girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, who claims Manziel hit her as they drove back to her apartment after a heated argument. Weeks later, she was granted a protective order that requires Manziel to not see her for two years.
