The Internet has been going crazy since Beyonce dropped LEMONADE on Saturday (April 23).
After the album and HBO special aired, a number of questions have arose. One being: Are things okay between Beyonce and Jay Z? Another is: Who is the “Becky with the good hair” she mentions?
On the album cut Sorry,” Beyoncé opens about about Jay’s alleged lover, referencing someone named Becky. “Middle fingers up, put them hands high / Wave it in his face, tell him, boy, bye / I ain’t thinking ’bout you!” She sings, before adding: “He better call Becky with the good hair.”
Beyonce’s fans immediately began to speculate the identity of this “Becky”, which is now believed to be fashion designer Rachel Roy.
Shortly after the release, Roy herself took to Instagram with a photo carrying the caption: “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always. live in the light #nodramaqueens.” It’s since deleted the IG post, but check the screenshot below.
Back in 2014, there were rumors that Roy may have been the cause of the now infamous elevator incident where Beyonce’s younger sister attacked Jay Z — with footage later leaking online.
With the release of LEMONADE, Beyonce’s BEYHIVE went after Roy online, relentlessly attacking her on both Twitter and Instagram, after which the designer took to Twitter to denounce bullying and defend herself.
There’s been no official statement regarding the matter from neither Beyonce or Roy, outside the music and indirect comments on social media. Stay tuned for more info.
Roy is the ex-wife/baby’s mother of Jay Z’s ex-business partner, Damon Dash.
