Despite a probation violation arrest last month, Jon Jones is still slated to compete at UFC 197 later this month… except against a different opponent.
Jones was slated to fight defending champion Daniel Cormier on April 23, but Cormier has been forced to withdraw, due to a lower leg injury. So instead, Jones will take on Ovince Saint Preux for the UFC’s interim title.
The 28-year-old hasn’t fought in the Octagon since January 2015, when he defeated Cormier via unanimous decision — his eighth consecutive title defense, a record for the 205-pound division.
However, Jones was arrested a few months later in May, before his next fight against Anthony Johnson on a felony hit-and-run charge in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The UFC then stripped Jones of the title.
