Nike is planning a major expansion of its headquarters in Beaverton, OR… and reveals renderings of what it will look like.
With completion targeted for 2018, the expansion will add around 3.2 million square feet of new space, which will be used for office, mixed-use and parking facilities.
The architecture itself takes inspiration from human movement, speed and the strength and energy of competition — all key elements of Nike’s core mission. A beacon will be added to a campus center, while spanning structures coming from the the tower will pay homage to Nike’s namesake, the winged goddess of victory.
“Every day at Nike we dream up new ways to inspire athletes to expand their potential,” Nike CEO Mark Parker says. “To do that, we relentlessly evolve how we inspire our own teams and design environments that foster chemistry and collaboration. Our expanding World Headquarters reflects the best of Nike’s culture — a place where we obsess the athlete and invent future products and experiences for consumers everywhere.”
The new structures reinforce the original campus master plan and link to preexisting areas through open green spaces, paths, sports courts and fields, and are positioned for fluid future growth.
