UFC heavyweights Mark Hunt and Frank Mir faced off on Saturday night (March 19) at UFC Fight Night in Brisbane, Australia… and it was Hunt making quick work of the former champ.
The New Zealander knocked out Mir quickly, feinting with a double jab right before firing off a short right hand that sent Mir to the mat. He fell backwards and was badly hurt, but still conscious… but Hunt didn’t even bother hopping on him. Instead, he walked away as the referee called the match.
“There’s always a winner and a loser,” said Hunt, who picked up his second consecutive win. “It’s sad one of us had to lose tonight. Frank is a good dude. I respect him a lot.”
As expected, Mir attempted to take down Hunt to no avail.
It was Mir’s first knockout loss since August 2013, following back-to-back wins against Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee, but has since lost two in a row. It’s also the eight KO of his career.
Hunt is now on a tw-win streak, but suffered TKO losses to Stipe Miocic and Fabricio Werdum prior.
