Vince Staples put on a controversial performance at SXSW this week, blasting streaming service Spotify.
During his set at the Spotify House on Tuesday (March 15), the Long Beach rapper called out the company over unfair compensation for his music.
“Shout out to Spotify. Thank you for giving me this check to make up for what you’ve done to me and all my musical friends,” Staples said, according to Austin360.com, claiming that Spotify pays a 1/4 of a penny for each song streamed.
Later during his performance, he asked the audience to “listen to your favorite album 1,000, 2,000 times so everybody can get an album sale.”
Staples also Spotify on Twitter, writing: “S/o to @Spotify. The only place I go when I stream my Willow Smith.”
