After leaving his Funk Volume label in January, Hopsin further addresses the fallout between him and partner Damien Ritter in his latest song, “Ill Mind of Hopsin 8”.
In the music video, the rapper takes the stand in a court room and opens up about the pair’s problems. “What the f*ck? Homie, I made you rich, paid your rent / biting the hand that feeds you? This sh*t don’t make any sense,” Hopsin raps in the song’s opening bars.
He then goes to claim that things got weird, after he requested Ritter step down as his manager. “Something’s fishy about you, Mr. D. Ritter / When I told you I wanted new management, why the f*ck you throw a fit and seem bitter?” Hopsin asks. “Why do you catch an attitude whenever I question you about all of my f*cking percentages? / I know why. You been bending it in your benefit.”
“He has a gambling issue, he takes the cash and blows it all at casinos / When I bring up my royalties, you start avoiding me / That’s some disloyalty,” he later adds.
Hopsin even accuses Ritter of running their Funk Volume label “into the gutter”.
Since the beef between the two became public, Ritter has remained silent, but did offer a general statement in late January, saying: “I’m still trying to make sense of it all and how it got to this point. It’s extremely sad because I know how so many fans felt about the label.”
