The Atlanta Falcons have released Roddy White, the franchise’s all-time leading receiver.
The 34-year-old had two years remaining on his contract and was scheduled to make $4.25 million in 2016, with a cap of just over $6.1 million. His release saves the Falcons nearly $2.4 million in cap space next season.
In a text to ESPN, White says he wants to play in the NFL for “another year or two”… and doesn’t plan to take a pay cut.
From 2007-14, White earned four Pro Bowls selections and averaged 88.25 catches and 1,175.63 yards per season. However, in 2015, he was the team’s fourth-leading receiver, catching 43 passes for 506 yards and one touchdown on 67 targets.
