Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine took the crown at the 2016 Verizon Slam Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend in Toronto, edging out the Orlando Magic’s Aaron Gordon in an epic final round.
LaVine posted four straight perfect 50s during the contest, to win for the second straight year. But, the final round was a close one, with both high fliers matching each dunk for dunk… resulting in two more rounds of tiebreakers to decide a winner.
In the end, Gordon got a 47 with a Harold Miner-style jackknife dunk on his fourth dunk, allowing LaVine to take the title in one of the most memorable dunk contests in years. LaVine finished things off with a between-the-legs dunk from a step inside the free throw line… en route to becoming just the fourth player to win back-to-back titles.
LaVine was also named MVP in Friday’s BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge, after putting up 30 points and seven rebounds to lead the U.S. team to a 157-154 victory over the World squad.
Below are a few of the dunk highlights. Enjoy.
