New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony recently paid a visit to the city’s notorious Rikers Island prison facility to meet with a group of young prisoners.
“I thought that the young prisoners would have more of a chance to make their situations better once they got home again,” Melo said of his choice to meet with young prisoners. “I hope by visiting and talking with them, I might play a small part in helping them have a better situation when they’re out.”
Melo sat with the inmates and answered questions, while trying to inspire them to do something with their lives.
“I’m not sure what I expected. I knew it wasn’t going to be pleasant. And, it wasn’t. At all. It was extremely disturbing,” he said of the experience.
