CBS has announced plans for a new Star Trek TV series, set to launch in January 2017.
The new series will debut with a special preview broadcast on CBS, with all subsequent first-run episodes to then be available exclusively in the U.S. on CBS All Access, the network’s digital subscription VOD service.
The new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic themes seen in the franchise since its inception in 1966.
It is currently being developed by producer Alex Kurtzman, who will offer a new take on the sci-fi classic.
The new series comes as the franchise gears up for its 50th anniversary.
