“Goosebumps” Takes Box Office With $23.5 Million

The family-friendly Goosebumps took the weekend box office, over Guillermo del Toro's haunted house pic Crimson Peak.

Sony's Goosebumps, based on the popular R.L. Stine book series, opened with $23.5 million for first place, while del Toro's Crimson Peak debuted in fourth with $12.8 million.

Ridley Scott's space adventure, The Martian, lands in second place its third week, earning $21.5 million to bring its domestic total to $143.7 million.

Steven Spielberg's well-received cold-war thriller Bridge of Spies, starring Tom Hanks, debuted in third place with $15.4 million from 2,811 theaters.

Hotel Transylvania 2 closes out the top 5 with $12.2 million, bringing its total to $136.4 million..

That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of the Universal musical Jem and the Holograms, Vin Diesel's The Last Witch Hunter, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension and the Bill Murray comedy Rock The Kasbah.
