T.I. Talks Relationship With Iggy Azalea, Says They Don’t Speak

Iggy Azalea had a rough 2014 and 2015 thus far, but despite the hardships, her mentor T.I. has been there to help her along the way. However, presently, the two are no longer as tight.

In an interview with Hot 97 this week, in support of his new EP Da' Nic, the Atlanta rap icon opened up about his current relationship with Iggy... and why they stopped seeing eye-to-eye.

"It took a bit of a rest stop," TIP said, regarding Iggy's career, before revealing that they haven't spoken in quite some time. "The thing is, in her defense, she had a lot thrown at her at one time. Any human being, anywhere, gonna have a hard time adjusting.

"It's very difficult to be the new kid, and be the butt of the jokes, and be directed with all the negativity," he continued. "It came at a time where, culturally in this nation, we were actually looking for a source for somewhere to place pent-up aggression. She kinda got it for no reason. Some stuff, [Iggy did bring upon herself]."

As the conversation continued, T.I. revealed that he began to back away from Iggy after her exchange with hip-hop legend Q-Tip, who attempted to school her on the history of the genre... while she was in the midst of widespread backlash over accusations of appropriating black culture.

Although TIP would come to her defense in the situation, Iggy further alienated herself with a round of defensive responses to Q-Tip.

"After the Q-Tip thing, I kinda smoothed it over... everything was cool. Then, [Iggy] came back and undid what I had just did," T.I. explained. "I'm a loyal partner, and if I rock with you, Imma rock with you. Right, wrong... we'll discuss that in the car. We're gonna get outta here right now, though. That's just how I am. But, I'mma block the bullets... but now, go. When I say go, just go. Don't stand around and talk while I'm taking bullets."

Despite how things have played out with Iggy's career, he still believes she can continue to have a successful run.

"I really do feel, [Iggy] needed a lil more time to adjust, which I feel she can do. She has the talent, the charisma..." TIP says.
