“War Room” Finally Dethrones “Straight Outta Compton” At Box Office

Straight Outta Compton was finally dethroned at the box office during Labor Day Weekend to the faith-based War Room.

Sony's War Room landed in first in its second weekend, earning $12.6 million across the four-day holiday weekend, according to estimates Monday (September 7). The micro-budget family drama, which cost only $3.5 million to produce, has grossed $27.9 million to date.

Compton landed in second in its fourth weekend, bringing in another $11.1 million to bring its domestic haul to over $150 million to date.

As for new releases, A Walk in the Woods debuted in third with $10.5 million. It's based on Bill Bryson's memoir starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte.

The action pic The Transporter Refueled opened in fifth with $9 million to close out the top 5.

That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of the Sony thriller Perfect Guy, starring Sanaa Lathan; the drama 90 Minutes in Heaven starring Kate Bosworth; and the horror flick The Visit.
