Straight Outta Compton

Straight Outta Compton continues its run at the top of the box office, leading the way this weekend over new films such as War Room, No Escape and Zac Efron's We Are Your Friends.

The N.W.A. biopic earned $13.2 million to top the box office for the third-straight week. To date, it has made $134.1 million in total... making history as the highest-grossing musical biopic ever, passing the lifetime U.S. total of the Johnny Cash tale Walk the Line ($119.5 million).

The Christian drama War Room came close to dethroning Compton, but fell to second with $11 million. It's about an African-American family who perseveres through prayer.

Owen Wilson and Lake Bell's Thailand thriller, No Escape, opened in fourth with $8.3 million for the Weinstein Co., while Efron's We Are Your Friends flopped big time, earning just $1.8 million on 2,333 screens (more than twice the number for War Room) --one of the lowest weekend openings ever for a film that played so widely.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation lands in third with $8.3 million and $170.3 million to date, and Sinister 2 closes out the top 5 with $4.6 million and $18.5 million thus far.

That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of The Transporter Refueled and the comedy A Walk in the Woods.
