NY Rap Vet Pumpkinhead Dead Passes Way

The hip-hop community lost a memorable figure on Tuesday (June 9), as news surfaced that New York rap vet Pumpkinhead has passed away.

While details are unknown, reports said he had been admitted to a New Jersey hospital earlier this week for minor surgery. A cause of death was unknown.

Producer/friend Marco Polo revealed the news on social media, saying he died early Tuesday. “Today is a very sh*tty day,” he tweeted. “Just got word my brother Pumpkinhead passed away at 5:40am this morning. My condolences to his family… R.I.P.”

Fellow NYC rapper Pharoahe Monch was shocked by the news, tweeting: “I’m completely devastated. RIP PH.”

The Brooklyn rapper got his first big break with the 1997 single “Dynamic,” which was a staple on mixtapes in the late 1990s and later remixed by the Beat Junkies.

R.I.P. to Pumpkinhead.
