Initially kicking off in NYC in late April, the tour celebrated the network’s new film Bessie, which chronicles the life of late blues singer Bessie Smith, with Queen Latifah playing the lead.
During Thursday night’s conclusion, Solange performed a number of familiar songs, such as “Don’t Let Me Down,” “Locked in Closets,” and “Losing You,” as well as a new one called “Rise”, dedicated to Baltimore and Ferguson.
The Los Angeles run followed a three-day New York takeover (which ended with a surprise performance from Janelle Monae).
During the L.A. leg, songwriter Stacy Barthe and producer Bryan Michael Cox participated in a private, student-only workshop, while up-and-coming talent such as solo crooner Tiffany Gouché, soulful trio KING and buzzed-about R&B singer Kehlani performed during a showcase during the evening prior to last night’s final date.
Bessie airs on May 16th on HBO. Watch the trailer below.
