During Game 2 of the Houston Rockets-Los Angeles Clippers series, L.A. forward made a profane remark toward James Harden’s mother.
Since then, the NBA has chosen to fine Barnes $50,000 for the inappropriate language.
During the game, Barnes was exchanging words with fans, and said he was simply responding to remarks made towards him, not knowing he was making the remarks at Harden’s mother until afterwards.
“We’ve made our peace,” he said, according to ESPN. “We’ve spoken twice since the incident. She said something and I said something back. I’ve heard speculation to what I allegedly said, which is crazy and untrue but it is what it is. They’re trying to start controversy. She said something and I said something back. I spoke to her at halftime and I spoke to her after the game and we’re fine.
“I had no idea who it was,” Barnes said. “I didn’t find out who it was until I saw [DeAndre Jordan] on the bus because I saw D.J. speak to her at halftime as well. I was like, ‘Who is that?’ and he said, ‘James Harden’s mom’ and I was like, ‘Oh, God, that’s going to make it 100 times worse.’ I don’t know her, I don’t really know James too well.”
