With his sophomore album At.Long.Last.A$AP coming this month, A$AP Rocky lands on the cover of Billboard, where he discusses his evolution from rapper to fashion icon and soon-to-be movie star.

His taste In Music
He admits that he’s only skimmed Kendrick Lamar’s critically acclaimed album, To Pimp a Butterfly, saying: “I got about two songs I liked.”

He’s been listening to Portishead, Massive Attack, Thom Yorke, and “old ’60s psychedelic sh*t”, like the Kinks and the Stooges.

His Changing Style
Rocky says he’s original enough to make a lasting impact. “I don’t like doing anything anyone else is doing,” he explains. “If leather’s popular this year, I’m just going to have to go with suede. If you want to consider my sh*t alternative, so be it. I just look at it as eclectic.”

On Breaking Into Film
The rapper has made his film debut as a drug dealer in Rick Famuyiwa’s smash at Sundance, entitled DOPE. While he loved the film, Rocky wants to do something different next. “I want something that gives me more of a challenge and is less cliched. Until I find something that feels right, I’m going to stay my ass off the big screen.”

At.Long.Last.A$AP is due out May 12.
