Lexus recently gave us some hands-on time with their 2015 NX 200t F SPORT. We’ve been looking forward to test driving the luxury crossover and graciously took it test over the course of a week.
The new NX 200t F SPORT is graceful and sharp with a 2.0 Liter Turbocharged Engine that produces 235HP. With the ability to go 0-60 in 7.2 seconds, with top speeds of 124 mph on the track, Lexus delivers a crossover that drives much more like a performance sedan than it does a utility vehicle.
Additionally, a six-speed automatic Electronically Controlled Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) offers quick acceleration for thrill-seekers. Furthermore, Lexus’ Drive Mode Select enables you to make your NX more responsive or efficient with a simple turn of the dial, from eco to sport.
Our 235HP automatic took to the the road with grace. The NX features exclusive front/rear performance dampers and a suspension (MacPherson struts with coil springs and gas-pressurized shock absorbers) tuned by the same team behind the LFA supercar, all providing for a dynamic handling experience that is sure to impress.
The NX 200t F SPORT’s interior expertly pairs luxury and sport. Every drive proves to be a treat as you’re supported by the NuLuxe seating and eased by the vehicle’s clearly marked 4.2 inch dynamic gauge cluster dashboard. All new Lexus models include a recently improved and intuitive Remote Touchpad and 7 inch Lexus Encore display interface. While the touchpad does take time to get used to, we were especially pleased with Encore’s fuel guide (complete with brand name, distance and pricing) that automatically suggests nearby gas stations once the vehicle’s fuel level nears empty.
Furthermore, Lexus proudly touts their new smartphone Qi-compatible charger tray. We tested four different phones (three different iPhones and one Android throughout the week) and have to report the technology only works half of the time. Our results were inconclusive for the drive so we would encourage readers to inquire about this on their next test drive.
Exterior-wise, the NX 200t F SPORT is sleek, sporty and compact. The crossover’s gradual contours create a sporty appearance, personifying youthfulness. LED headlamps, tail lamps and illuminated entry (door handles) ensure optimal visibility. The NX’s 18 inch F SPORT alloy wheels give the crossover a healthy dose of curbside confidence.
Value and Safety
Safety is at the forefront with four-wheel power-assisted ventilated discs, with four-sensor, four-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), reinforced body, and newly developed front passenger advanced airbag system (SRS) complete the NX’s dedication to safety. Lexus also delivers with a state of the art Blind Spot Monitor and standard backup camera complete with dynamic gridlines to help guide your drive.
Additionally, all new Lexus models come with a complimentary Lexus Roadside Assistance Mobile App, 48 month/50,000 mile warranty and partnered hotel discounts.
The NX 200t F SPORT continues Lexus’ strong linage of luxury. At $36,580, the NX is a pleasant surprise for those seeking the triple entente of design, performance and luxury. The vehicle’s certification as an Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) certainly serves as icing to an already great vehicle. The NX 200t F SPORT drives at a respectable (22/28 city and highway) MPG.
Special thanks to Lexus, who provided us with the vehicle, insurance and full tank of gas for this review.
