While Apple and Beats Music are prepping an overhaul of their music app, Jay Z is making waves with his competitor service, dubbed Tidal.
If you’ve noticed on social media, several of music’s biggest stars — from Madonna to Nicki Minaj to Kanye West to Rihanna — have changed their profile pics to a solid teal blue… in support of the hip-hop mogul’s new music streaming service.
According to the New York Post, Tidal is seeking to exclusively stream music from a number of artists, planning to take a more artist-friendly approach with its roster of talent.
“Jay Z’s whole approach is, they’re created by artists, supported by artists. The more players, the better,” an executive told the paper. “He’s disrupting Apple’s venture.”
Tidal is currently available to users for $20 a month, but Jay Z will make an official announcement on Monday (March 30) at 5 pm EST, announcing his plans with Tidal, where Rihanna, Madonna and Coldplay will reportedly be present.
Jay Z acquired Swedish streaming services company known as Aspiro for $56 million. They own Tidal.
