“Home” Soars Past “Get Hard” At Weekend Box Office

Dreamworks' Home battled it out over the weekend with the Will Ferrell-Kevin Hart comedy Get Hard, but in the end, the animated film won.

The animated alien adventure topped all movies with a $54 million debut. It's led by Rihanna, who plays a teenage girl left alone after an alien invasion of Earth. It also features the voices of Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin.

In at #2 is Get Hard, opening $34.6 million. In the film, millionaire James King (Ferrell) is nailed for fraud and sentenced to time in San Quentin Prison, so he turns to Darnell Lewis (Hart) to prep him to go behind bars.

Last weekend's top film, Insurgent, fell to third place this weekend with $22 million; Cinderella lands at #4 with $17.5 million; and It Follows, a critically acclaimed indie horror film from Radius, expanded to 1,218 theaters over the weekend to close out the top 5 with $4 million.

That's a wrap for this weekend. This upcoming week, look out for the release of the anticipated action, Furious 7.
