Meerkat just got some stiff competition with the launch of Twitter’s Periscope.
The live-streaming service was acquired by Twitter months ago for $100 million, before it was even released, and now it’s here.
Through it, users can deliver live video content to followers, and allow them to engage with their fanbase in real time. It’s touted as a more polished version of Meerkat, allowing users to save and replay live streams, broadcast to a specific audience, and collect “hearts” from viewers — all functionalities Meerkat doesn’t offer.
The Periscope app is available as a free download from the App Store.
